A look into the "B.T.C."

The Bristol Tattoo Club, founded in 1953 by Les Skuse, stands as a pioneering institution in the tattooing world, challenging stereotypes and fostering a community of ink enthusiasts and artists. Les envisioned the BTC as a platform to elevate the artistry of tattooing, dispelling misconceptions that only ‘bad people’ or those in the armed forces had tattoos, and promoting a higher standard within the industry. What began as a modest gathering evolved into an international phenomenon, with the BTC hosting its inaugural convention in 1953 at the White Horse public house in Bristol. Over the years, renowned artists such as Sailor Jerry Collins, Bert Grimm and Lyle Tuttle became members, further solidifying the club's status as a hub for tattoo culture.

Under the leadership of Les Skuse and later his son Danny, the BTC expanded its influence, even crossing the Atlantic to establish the first tattoo convention in the United States in 1956. Today, under the guidance of President Jimmie Skuse, the BTC continues to thrive, bridging the gap between tattoo enthusiasts and artists worldwide. With a resurgence in interest and membership, the BTC remains committed to its mission of preserving tattoo history while embracing its vibrant future. Joining the Bristol Tattoo Club offers not only a connection to its rich heritage but also a chance to be part of a global community that celebrates the art of ink.
